“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.”  Oprah Winfrey

As you know I’m a strength and conditioning coach for my profession. I train people to get bigger, faster and stronger. I have some athletes that come to me and want to bench press a certain amount of weight. I have others that come to me and want to run a 5K or a marathon in a certain time. You know how we set up those programs? We look at the end result, and work backwards to where we are now, and determine the small steps we need to make each day to get to that goal. Someone wants to add 30 lbs to their bench in 10 weeks. Simply, we need to add 3 lbs a week to their max, and we’ll get them there. Try to just put them under the machine the first day, put the weight on and YELL , PUSH doesn’t work. Same with decreasing the run time. We look at the long term, see how much time we need to drop, break that goal into small weekly and monthly goals – and hit our mark.

This is where you start with any goal – and any process where you want to step out of your comfort zone. You begin where you are, and ever so slowly, move towards that goal. By doing the right things, and getting the easy wins, you put yourself on the path to success and build that self-confidence that comes with each success.

We’ve been working on this for a few months now. Looking at your goals, identify the skills you’ll need to achieve them. And then look at how you can acquire these skills confidently and well. Don’t just accept a sketchy, just-good-enough solution – look for a solution, a program or a course that fully equips you to achieve what you want to achieve and, ideally, gives you a certificate or qualification you can be proud of.

I have people all the time that ask me if going to this course is a good idea. Getting with a trainer is a good idea. Doing some class or on-line program is a good idea. To this I say – Yes, YES and YES! I try to go to at least 3 conference or clinics each year where I can get around people that I can learn from, get ideas from and implement into my life – in my business, personal, financial and even spiritual life. They give me great ideas on things to listen to, things to read, other people that I should be following and touching base with to tap into their way of doing things that match my ideas and plans.

By staying on top of that new trends, new ideas, positive thinking and cutting edge ideas, I can keep celebrating and enjoying success, and keep those mental images strong. It also helps me to look at the other side, learn to handle failure. Guess what? Almost every successful person you talk to has had some failures. They hit the road block and maybe even questioned themselves. But they kept moving on and pushing forward. It helps you to accept that mistakes happen when you’re trying something new. In fact, if you get into the habit of treating mistakes as learning experiences, you can (almost) start to see them in a positive light. After all, there’s a lot to be said for the saying “if it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger!”

Get stronger today and work to get better!!

DO IT

This week may be hard, but also simple. Know that is hard to get a grip on, but what I want you to do is find a class, a clinic, a seminar, a speaker – something that you can go to and learn. It might even be an on-line course. It might be something off of TED talks. Maybe it’s a book that has you doing something new in your profession or personal life. Find it – and sign-up for it.
That can be the tough part – not just finding it, but taking the time (and maybe the money) to go to the course, or read the book, or listen to the webinar or tape series. That’s the hard part – adding to your already busy schedule. But it will be worth it.
The last one is easy – want you to email me at rozyroozen@gmail.com and tell me what you are doing for this weeks lesson. I’ll write back to you and tell you what I’m doing. Mine is actually a 21 day DVD course I’m doing. To get more information – you’ll have to email me with your stuff first.
MAKE IT A GREAT WEEK.
