Reverse Back Hyperextension

I know many folks do Back Hyperextensions and REVERSE BACK HYPERTENSION. I get asked all the time if this is a GOOD EXERCISE – or a BAD EXERCISE. I tell people, just like different programs – there are no good or bad programs, just bad coaches. The same holds true for most exercises – there are no GOOD OR BAD – just bad technique and form. The HIP EXTENSION MACHINE – or REVERSE BACK HYPER MACHINE can be an great hip extension exercise, but it can also cause shear loading forces in the spine if done incorrectly. Focus on the elimination of SPINE HINGING and concentrate on HIP HINGING (we spoke on this a few blogs back if you want to check it out). The entire motion needs to be centered on HIP MOVEMENT – and not spine.

Many machines also allow you to add resistance by bands or weights. NEVER SACRIFICE FORM AND CONTROL TO LIFT MORE OR DO MORE.
